I proceeded to take it apart and do all the reset thing like many of the other unhappy reviewers. Hopefully I can purchase another type of unit that is more reliable and has better engineering for changing batteries. Evidently there wasn't any signal being received from the rain gauge. No reading. Earlier today in North Texas we received some much needed rain. I used my multi tester to check the original batteries and they were fine. I see I am just one of many that have had problems with it. After messing most of the day with it, I decided to check reviews on this product.
I never received a low battery signal and had hoped that changing the batteries would solve my problems. Thirty minutes later no signal from the rain gauge. Anticipating the amount I went to my RGR 126 base unit to see how much. The multiple small screws on the rain gauge battery compartment are a pain to remove. I thought I was in business when I finally got a signal from both the thermometer and rain gauge. I got this item as a Christmas present and it had worked for about 6 months. Nope. Buyer beware.
The only way to get the last 7 days is to either remember to re-set the cumulative display every 7 days OR to select each previous of the last 7 days and then manually ADD UP the rainfall for 7 days.UNACCEPTABLE.Also there are TOO MANY little screws that have to be removed in order to change batteries.about 9-10 if I remember correctly.Sent this unit back and bought Honeywell TC-152. Bought this item to set display so that it would always show the last 7 to 9 days of rainfall. Sorry about that. It is cheaper and can be set to always display last seven days of rainfall. Down side.it has a lot of screws to remove also.
I also love that I dont have to go out and empty the rain guage everytime it rains. I've had this rain guage (RGR126) installed for about 2 weeks now and am very happy with the results. About my only complaint with the unit, which mirrors other reviewer complaints, is the 8 small screws for the battery compartment in the rain collector. The outside temperture sender is very accurate and the rain guage seems to be spot on. (verified by doppler radar estimates for my location, and a manual rain guage). (There has to be a better way). As for longevity, I guess time will tell the whole story there, but so far I'm very happy with the unit so far.
This rain guage is easy to read, easy to set up and provides an accurate way to measure rainfall. Mounting and set up were well explained in the user manual. Inside and outside temperature is also very handy. The inside unit is attractive and well thought out.
Unfortunately, we received one that gave the inside and outside temperature but would not register the rain fall. We were able to get a refund with no problem. Decided to try and find one locally.
